Couch 2 5k

Back in June, a small group of intrepid and unfit villagers started on the Couch 2 5k programme – many of the group had health conditions or were sliding down the slope of middle age! However, the group encouraged each other and met three times a week in the park – and with a WhatsApp group for accountability, they even ran on their own when on holiday or working away. After nine weeks of effort and lots of laughs later, everyone managed to run for a full thirty minutes and are hoping to enter the Santa Fun Run in early December to crown their achievements. If there is enough interest, a new group will start in spring 2023.

Fitness Group

Following on from Couch 2 5K, those who had worked hard to gain their fitness, along with a few others with no desire for running, started basic fitness sessions. These are currently running at the Club on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8am. Everyone works within their own abilities and new exercises are introduced to keep up the interest – the hula hooping was a particular hit!

Some of the group spend the time walking and chatting on the field at the back, whilst others are working hard on their planks and lunges. It is believed some folk just lie on the mats and do nothing for half an hour, but nobody has actually confessed to this yet!

The sessions are suitable for all levels and you don’t have to attend every session – but you get stronger and fitter much more quickly if you do.

Participants of both the running and fitness have reported being able to function pain-free for the first time in ages, as well as enjoying the social aspect, routine and very low cost of the sessions.
